- Popular in floristry
A spreading small to medium-sized tree growing 8-15m tall. The leaves of young plants are round, silvery grey and closely attached to the branches with a distinctive eucalyptus fragrance. They are widely used in floristry. Mature leaves (rarely produced) are larger, silvery grey with pointed tips, and the bark is grey to red, peeling in strips off the trunk. Small cream flowers are produced in spring and summer.
Grow as a screen or feature tree in a native garden. When pruned regularly through the warmer months it can be grown as a hedge; once established plants can also be coppiced (cut to the ground) to rejuvenate them and control their size. Bird and bee attracting. Drought tolerant.
Native to the central and southern tablelands of NSW and northeastern Victoria. Also known as 'Silver-leaf Stringbark' and 'Mealy Stringybark'.
*Exact seed count per packet is hard to determine as seeds are mixed with chaff and very difficult to tell apart. Sow seeds and chaff together.
Note: Seeds of many native plants are dormant and will not germinate until ideal environmental conditions are met. Follow instructions for pre-treatment and sowing, and be patient; some wild harvested seeds can take much longer to germinate than expected.
