Description

Dragon Fruit- Yellow Megalanthus (Cutting)

Selenicereus megalanthus

Synonyms: Hylocereus megalanthus

NOT TO TAS, WA

  • Climbing perennial cactus
  • Yellow fruit with white flesh
  • Sweet with excellent flavour

A succulent perennial cactus that grows as a climbing vine with large, white scented flowers and fruit with yellow skin and white flesh. One of the sweetest varieties with excellent flavour. The fruit is covered with spines that can be removed with a soft brush before harvesting. Yellow dragon fruit is also called 'Colombian dragon fruit'. This variety is self-pollinating.

This variety of dragon fruit is native to Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The cactus-like plants are succulent and are usually grown up a pole or trellis, with multiple, spreading branches at the top. Tropical flowers that resemble waterlilies open at night and are pollinated by bats or moths. The fruit has a hard skin and soft, sweet-falvoured flesh speckled with small edible seeds. Also known as 'Pitaya', 'Pitahya', 'Queen of the Night', 'Night-blooming Cactus', 'Moonlight Cactus' and 'Cinderella Plant'.

Note: bare-rooted cuttings are between 15cm and 25cm in length. Plant with the arrow pointing upwards.

Ratings & Reviews

Dragon Fruit- Yellow Megalanthus (Cutting)

Ordered 4 different cuttings. When they arrived the packaging was lacking. Only wrapped in Brown paper, they were dry & dull. The megalanthus was yellow & dry. I used rooting compound & planted but if turned brown & dried out within days. Others are still hanging on & we’ll see if they make it. I attempted twice to contact admin, but have not received any response. I will not buy cuttings from them ever again.
