Description
'Banksia- Heath-Leaved' seeds
Banksia ericifolia ssp. macrantha
- Shrub to small tree growing to 4m
- Large burnt orange flower spikes
- Attracts birds
An evergreen perennial shrub to small tree growing to 4m high by 3m wide. Named for its fine, narrow, dark green leaves that resemble heath, plants produce large burnt orange to gold cyclindrical flower spikes, each 20-40cm long, in autumn and winter. The flowers are followed by woody cones. One of the easiest banksias to grow, suited to native gardens, to use as a screening tree and for cut flowers. The nectar-rich flowers attract birds, especially honeyeaters.
Native to forests and woodlands of coastal northern NSW. Tolerates sandy soil, coastal conditions, drought and frost.
Note: Seeds of many native plants are dormant and will not germinate until ideal environmental conditions are met. Follow instructions for pre-treatment and sowing, and be patient; some wild harvested seeds can take much longer to germinate than expected.
