Description

Aloe Vera

Aloe barbadensis

NOT TO TAS, WA

  • Succulent perennial to 50cm
  • Medicinal uses
  • Suited to containers

A succulent, clump-forming perennial growing to 50cm with thick, fleshy mid-green upright leaves, sometimes marked with white spots or stripes. The leaves have a line of soft thorns along each edge. Plants produce flower spikes with clusters of small orange flowers that attract honey eating birds; plants rarely flower indoors.

Aloe vera leaves contain a gel that has been used medicinally to treat sunburn and other skin irritations. The flesh can also be cut and added to smoothies and other drinks. Suited to growing in garden beds or containers, in bright filtered light indoors or in a frost-free position in full or part sun outdoors. Drought tolerant. Also known as 'Burn Plant'.

Note: bare-rooted plants or 'pups' vary in size and stages of root development.
